Frequently Asked Questions

  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a non-comedogenic face and body wash designed to cleanse the skin while protecting its natural moisture barrier. Unlike many cleansers that strip the skin of its natural oils, this formula gently removes dirt, oil, and makeup without leaving skin feeling tight or dry. It works to replenish and maintain the skin's protective barrier while providing deep hydration. MVE (MultiVesicular Emulsion) Delivery Technology provides a continuous release of moisturising ingredients, maintaining hydration levels for up to 24 hours. It is fragrance-free, non-irritating, and non-comedogenic, meaning it will not clog pores

  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is specifically formulated for normal to dry skin. Its gentle, hydrating formula makes it particularly well suited to those who experience tightness, dryness, or sensitivity after cleansing. It is also ideal for those with sensitive or eczema-prone skin, as it is fragrance-free, non-irritating, and carries the endorsement of the Eczema Association of Australasia Inc (EAA). The formula is non-comedogenic, making it appropriate for those concerned about blocked pores. It can be used on both the face and body, and is suitable for adults and children.

  • Three essential ceramides (ceramide NP, ceramide AP, and ceramide EOP) are central to the formula, helping to restore and maintain the skin's natural protective barrier — the lipid layer that keeps moisture in and environmental irritants out. Hyaluronic acid (as sodium hyaluronate) helps attract and retain moisture in the skin. Glycerin provides immediate hydration and helps prevent water loss. MVE Delivery Technology ensures these hydrating ingredients are released continuously throughout the day. The formula also contains cholesterol and phytosphingosine, which support the skin's natural ceramide synthesis. It is free from fragrance, making it suitable for sensitive skin.

    1. Wet the skin with lukewarm water, then massage a small amount of CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser into the skin using gentle, circular motions.
    2. Rinse thoroughly and pat the skin dry with a soft towel — avoid rubbing, which can cause irritation. It can be used on both the face and body.
    3. For best results, follow cleansing with CeraVe Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum and then a suitable moisturiser such as CeraVe Moisturising Cream or CeraVe PM Facial Moisturising Lotion.
  • Yes. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is endorsed by the Eczema Association of Australasia Inc (EAA) as suitable for eczema-prone skin, and is also accepted by the National Eczema Association. Its formula is fragrance-free and non-irritating, avoiding common triggers that can exacerbate eczema flares. The three essential ceramides in the formula help to replenish the skin's naturally occurring lipids, which are often depleted in eczema-prone skin, supporting barrier function and reducing transepidermal water loss. While it is not a treatment for eczema, it can be used as a gentle everyday cleanser to help maintain the skin barrier. For moderate to severe eczema, always consult a dermatologist for appropriate guidance.

  • CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is effective at gently removing everyday dirt, oil, and light makeup from the face. For heavier or waterproof makeup, particularly around the eyes, a dedicated makeup remover or micellar water may be needed first, followed by cleansing with the Hydrating Cleanser as the second step in a double-cleanse routine. This approach ensures the skin is thoroughly cleansed without the need for excessive rubbing or the use of harsher cleansers. If you regularly wear full makeup, the CeraVe Hydrating Foaming Oil Cleanser is another option worth considering, as its oil-based formula is particularly effective at dissolving makeup and impurities while maintaining hydration.

  • The key difference is in their texture, cleansing action, and target skin types. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser has a lotion-like texture that cleanses without foaming, making it gentle and moisturising — ideal for normal to dry or sensitive skin. CeraVe Foaming Cleanser produces a rich foam that provides a deeper, more thorough clean and is better suited to normal to oily skin, as it helps to remove excess oil and leave the skin feeling refreshed without heaviness. Both products contain three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid to support the skin barrier, are fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and developed with dermatologists. Choosing between them comes down to your skin type and how much cleansing power you need.

  • Yes. CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is formulated for use on both the face and the body, and is available in multiple sizes — including 88ml, 236ml, 473ml, and 1L — to suit different usage needs. Its gentle, hydrating formula makes it suitable as an everyday body wash for those with dry or sensitive skin who prefer a non-stripping cleanser. For very dry or rough skin on the body, CeraVe recommends complementing the Hydrating Cleanser with CeraVe SA Smoothing Cream or CeraVe Moisturising Cream to maintain hydration and support the skin barrier after bathing.
